West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee executed a cabinet reshuffle on Monday, just before embarking on her visits to Spain and Dubai. This strategic realignment saw shifts in ministerial responsibilities.
Key Changes in the Cabinet Reshuffle:
1. Babul Supriyo: The Tourism Department, previously overseen by Babul Supriyo, has been handed to Indranil Sen, who previously served as Minister of State with independent charge of the Tourism Department. Babul Supriyo will retain the IT and Electronics department and take on the Energy Department.
2. Jyotipriya Mallik: Jyotipriya Mallik's importance has grown significantly as he now manages not only the Forest Department but also the crucial Industrial Reconstruction Department. He is known for his close association with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
3. Pradeep Majumdar: Formerly responsible for the Panchayat office, Pradeep Majumdar's significance has surged in this reshuffle.
4. Arup Roy: Central Howrah MLA Arup Roy has had his influence somewhat diminished. He retains his responsibilities for the Cooperative Department but has been removed from the Food Processing Department.
The reshuffle involved reallocating existing departments among ministers rather than appointing new ministers. This avoided the need for oath-taking ceremonies, potentially sidestepping the ongoing conflict between Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the current Governor.
